Reaction to confirmation that Greater Birmingham will remain in Tier 3

17 Dec 2020

It is extremely disappointing to have confirmation that our region will remain in Tier 3 restrictions, especially given the huge impact on our economy and hospitality and events sectors which have been suffering for many months. I would urge people to continue to follow the rules and help bring the infection rate down. It is important we continue our efforts and reach the required indicators for Tier 2 as quickly as we can – which though far from ideal, will provide some opportunities for our businesses to recover.

What is imperative now is that additional support for affected businesses is forthcoming, and fast. Today’s announcements will put many more jobs under threat. It is absolutely critical that jobs are protected, and that our businesses survive to achieve a sustainable recovery. GBSLEP supports calls from partners across the region for a package of targeted support to address existing gaps in provision. We will continue to work with industry to identify additional interventions that can offer businesses a viable future. I would also encourage businesses to seek support via the GBSLEP Growth Hub. This is an incredibly challenging time, but together we can create the solutions needed to see through this crisis.
