Remuneration: £1,250 per day, 2 days per month commitment

Background

In December 2019, the Life Sciences Stakeholder Group convened by GBSLEP agreed to support the development of a Life Sciences Cluster for the West Midlands. To support the development of a thriving cluster, a new, joint venture, Health Technologies Cluster Organisation (HTCO) will be established. To prepare the ground for the establishment of the HTCO, a programme of work to further engage with the business and public sector organisations with interests in life sciences beyond the current Stakeholder Group is required. This Set-up Phase will be funded by GBSLEP, WMAHSN and a private sector partner and will run from January 1st 2020 to 31st December 2020.

Purpose

The Chair will be instrumental in laying the foundations for the successful establishment of the HTCO in early 2021. The Chair will be a champion and advocate for the emerging Cluster and will provide the leadership and foresight required to move the initiative from concept to reality. The priorities for the Set-up Phase are to:

  • To establish in more detail the needs, strengths, weaknesses and opportunities of the WM Health Technologies Cluster;
  • To understand the life science and associated business bases more fully and engage with them to raise awareness of the plans for the Cluster and secure their buy-in as future members;
  • To secure the commitment of Founder Members of the Cluster and formalise their contribution to the establishment of the CO financially and in kind;
  • Within one year, to develop a detailed business plan for sustainability with measurable targets and secure key stakeholders’ agreement and financial commitment to support the setting up of the HTCO.

The Chair will be supported by the Cluster Development Manager (CDM) and will report initially to a small steering group that comprises the funders of the Set-up Phase and, once established, to the HTCO Board.
