GBSLEP announce Strategic Economic Plan Enabling Fund for Towns and Local Centres

12 Oct 2020

Since the launch of our Towns and Local Centres Framework in March 2019, GBSLEP has provided revenue funding to support the development of numerous projects aimed at laying the foundations for the places of the future. This funding aims to create places where people want to visit, work and live, enabling visions for the future of our towns and local centres to be developed.

Projects we have supported over the past eighteen months have included a connectivity and accessibility study in the Soho Road area to identify issues and required improvements, a masterplan focused on Sutton Coldfield Town Centre identifying a vision for the future of the centre and more recently a study updating the growth plan for Shirley Town Centre which will sit alongside a newly developed action plan implementing a series of activities and projects to support local economic growth.

We are delighted to announce our next funding call as part of our Strategic Economic Plan Enabling Fund for Towns and Local Centres. £600,000 in revenue funding is available for projects which will enhance our locations and lay the foundations for the future.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a severe impact on our cities, towns and local centres and the businesses and other organisations located within them and as such we are encouraging applications for support which aim to tackle these issues and support local economic recovery.

We are also keen to encourage applications which support the cultural sector; including the development of cultural action zones that link to wider ‘place’ activity. These could include innovative approaches to meanwhile uses by the cultural sector, developing heritage assets and other cultural inspired activity that will help reanimate our local high streets.

As part of the wider regional approach we would also encourage projects which support a place based ‘green recovery’ and which contribute to clean air targets.

Pilot projects which can clearly articulate a wider vision will also be considered but these will need to focus on our towns and local centres For further information please see our guidance document here, or speak to a member of the LEP Executive.

Deadline for the submission of EOIs is noon on 16 November 2020.

Download our Expression of Interest (EOI) Form here.

The Place Team will be hosting an online workshop to outline the process and answer any questions you may have. To register for the workshop (Wed 21st Oct 11.00-12.30) click here.
