GBSLEP Board Director and SME lead Ewa Truchanowicz PhD FRSA reflects on announcement from the Chancellor of the Exchequer

GBSLEP Board Director and SME lead Ewa Truchanowicz PhD FRSA reflects on  announcement from the Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak, designed to help businesses through #covid19uk

“The GBSLEP welcomes the measures announced by the Chancellor today. With over 22,000 small businesses in the Greater Birmingham and Solihull region, assistance to keep viable businesses operating through this pandemic is essential.

“We need to create conditions for them to survive through the coronavirus crisis, and to adapt their business models, as we look to build a sustainable and inclusive economic recovery. But work still needs to be done to look at areas that have not been addressed by the government. For example, there is no targeted support for sectors that are adversely affected other than the limited extension of the VAT reductions to help hospitality and there are no measures to address the reduced footfall in our urban centres.

“We, the Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership along with our partners will continue to make the case to government for further support to areas of our economy in need.”
