The latest stage of development at Paradise Birmingham has been given the green light after Birmingham City Council awarded planning permission for a new thirteen-storey landmark building.
The 280,000 sq ft One Centenary Way building will overlook the transformed Centenary Square and provide a striking visual gateway to the Paradise Birmingham development with its exposed structural steel façade.
Significant progress has been made with the development of Paradise Birmingham, with work already well underway on Phase One Paradise Birmingham buildings, One and Two Chamberlain Square, together with the enhancement of public space in Chamberlain Square. Proposals for the new thirteen-storey building were submitted to Birmingham City Council in December last year and site works and initial construction of the building are expected to start later this year.
Designed by Birmingham-based Glenn Howells Architects, One Centenary Way incorporates three-metre wide horizontal windows, encased within an exposed darker structural steel façade. The building will overlook the redesigned Centenary Square and will open out onto Centenary Way, the pedestrian boulevard linking Victoria, Chamberlain and Centenary Squares, offering large office floorplates of 22,500 sq ft and space for shops and restaurants at ground level.
One Centenary Way will be the first building developed as part of Phase Two of Paradise Birmingham. This next phase will also deliver a further office building, Three Chamberlain Square, along with a new 250-bedroom 4-star hotel.

Argent, Development Manager for Paradise Birmingham, submitted the planning application for One Centenary Way on behalf of Hermes Investment Management, the £30.8 billion manager.

At 1.8 million square feet, Paradise Birmingham will deliver up to ten new flagship buildings, offering offices, shops, bars, cafés, restaurants and a four star hotel across 17 acres.

The Paradise Birmingham redevelopment is being brought forward through Paradise Circus Limited Partnership (PCLP), a private-public joint venture with Birmingham City Council. The private sector funding for Phase One and Two is being managed by Hermes Investment Management which has partnered with Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB) on the first phase of the development. Argent is the development manager.
Paradise Birmingham sits in the country’s largest city centre Enterprise Zone and has already benefited from investment by the Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership (GBSLEP) in enabling and infrastructure works.
