Meet Natalie Benson, Communications Officer for GBSLEP

Tell us about your job, and what your current focus is:

I am the Communications Officer for the LEP, this means I support the delivery of GBSLEP’s Stakeholder and Communications plans. My current focus is on this year’s Annual Report and developing our Future Economies initiative – which is one of the deliverables from the 2019/20 Stakeholder Engagement Plan.

What are you most proud of achieving at the LEP?

I’ve only been a here a month, but I am already proud to be part of such a great, hard-working team who make such an impact on the region.

What upcoming event or project in the region are you most looking forward to?

Too early to say the Frankfurt Christmas Market?

What made you want to move to the region, or what made you stay?

You’d describe me as more of a ‘Yam-Yam’ than a Brummie as I’m from Wolverhampton. But I genuinely believe that Birmingham is the UK’s second city, and there are so many exciting developments happening in the Greater Birmingham Area that I don’t know why you wouldn’t want to stick around and see it all happen.

What would be your “specialist subject” on Mastermind?

20th Century American Literature as I have always been a bookworm and some of the most influential works and writers came from this period – an English degree helps too!

If you were stuck in a lift with two people, who would you want them to be?

Lady Gaga and Jimi Hendrix. Both icons of their generation and I think a good singsong would pass the time nicely!

Describe life at the LEP in one word:

Collaboration.
