Date: 7th November
Venue: Room 105, Library of Birmingham, Centenary Square
The Business, Professional and Financial Services (BPFS) sector is a significant and diverse part of the West Midlands economy. Employment and gross value added (GVA) within this sector have risen over the recent decade and are both forecast to continue increasing – supporting one of the region’s largest and fastest growing industries during the next 10-15 years.
The BPFS sector also contains high-quality, highly skilled and well-paid jobs, all of which are predicted to increase in coming years.
For these reasons, BPFS was the first sector to undergo a ‘deep-dive’ investigation for the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA), and the evidence base that this investigation has created is informing the direction of the West Midlands Local Industrial Strategy.
This event will provide a unique opportunity for regional stakeholders, sector representatives and leaders to hear and discuss the findings and the development of local industrial policy. For attendees, the event will form part of the consultation on the West Midlands Local Industrial Strategy and provides an opportunity to feedback directly on whether current and proposed policies within the research are practical and appropriate.
This event is being organised by City-REDI, part of the University of Birmingham and lead research team, in conjunction with BPS Birmingham. It is funded by ESRC as part of the ESRC Festival of Social Science 2018 and forms part of GBSLEP’s consultation process for Local Industrial Strategy for the BPFS sector.
