Business & Innovation

Growing businesses, providing access to finance and stimulating innovation.

Business & Innovation

Our business and innovation priorities are to:

  • Stimulate demand-led innovation
  • Strengthen business support and access to finance, including for ‘scale ups’
  • Increase SME internationalisation and export
  • Grow key markets for inward investment
  • Develop our strengths and assets in key sectors and technologies

To deliver our priorities, we are working with our partners to:

  • Develop collaborative, challenge-led, cross-sector approaches that stimulate demand-led innovation and strengthen our innovation ecosystem
  • Develop our Growth Hub – in conjunction with our neighbouring Growth Hubs – to improve the support available to businesses – including those with high growth potential (‘scale ups’) and based in our disadvantaged communities – including support for accessing finance, and supply chain opportunities, recruitment and training, intellectual property, innovation and export – including sector specialist advice.
  • Develop and promote initiatives that build on our key sector and technology strengths – including the opportunities being created via the emerging National Industrial Strategy (e.g. Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund and Sector Deals)

Birmingham is an entrepreneurial hotspot.  Not only does the city have the highest number of new starts outside London; it also boasts incredible transport links, access to talent through four leading universities; a diverse population with an insatiable appetite for business and all the right ingredients to foster further innovation.
